Installation & Setup
Can a Solar-fox display be used out of doors?
Yes, the SF-400 is specially designed for outside use and complies with the IP65 protection requirements. The SF-200 is only for indoor use.
What connections are needed?
a. Two power connections (230V).
b. One Ethernet (RJ-45) with an Ethernet cable, a WLAN connection with a WLAN (WiFi) stick or a UMTS/GPRS stick.
Can the display be placed in a showroom window?
Yes, external light intensity needs to be considered. Direct sun light or a high intensity can cause a reduced visibility of displayed information. We recommend trans-reflective displays be used with a brightness intensity of more than 700cp/m². The trans-reflective displays are available only per special request. Please contact us for more information.
Where can the SF-200 display be mounted?
The SF-200 can be mounted on just about any interior wall. The wall must be strong enough to support the weight. Hollow wall construction (dry-wall) requires special hollow wall mounting anchor plugs. The display can also be mounted to a free standing foot (Travelstand/Mono-stand) that are available from us here at Solarfox.
What information/data is needed for the system to operate?
A standard presentation is pre-installed and can be up and running within a few minutes.
A personalized presentation requires the following information:
a. Your plant access data (url, username and password).
b. Your Solarfox access data (username and password). If you do not have your Solarfox info then register at http://setup.solar-fox.de and the data will be sent to you in an email.
How long does it take to Install/Initial Operation of the SF-200 display?
With the help of the online setup-assistant, that leads you step-by-step through the process, the system can be up and running within 30 minutes.
What is the power consumption for the Solarfox system?
The Solarfox computer has a consumption of 5W. The 32” display in stand-by mode consumes 1W and 105W when operating. Larger displays have a larger consumption when operating.
Do the displays include the mounting hardware and cables?
Yes, the displays are delivered with a tilt-able wall mount bracket. A 2m network cable and the power cords are included. Display to wall clearance is @ 6cm allowing for concealment of cables behind the unit.
What Internet speeds are required?
Solarfox has a built-in memory system so that data is downloaded and prepared in the background as the presentation is running in the foreground which helps to support slower internet speeds. Although slower speeds are supported by Solarfox® a download speed of 2Mb is recommended for a nice flowing presentation.
Is the Solarfox® software available for download and use on a PC/Laptop?
Here at Solarfox® we place a high value on OS stability and safety. We design our systems within close tolerances with the hardware and software. We are then able to provide Sellers, Installers and users a stable and relatively service free product. With the myriad possibilities of hard-/software configurations in foreign systems we only support Solarfox® systems. For this reason the Solarfox® software is not available for download.
I already have a LCD monitor/TV and would like to show the Solarfox® slideshow on it?
Normal LCD monitors are designed for a daily usage of 3 – 5 hours. When these monitors are in continuous +5 hour operation it soon leads to a reduction of picture quality and a loss/reduction of Manufactures guarantee. TV units are subject to TV and Radio Broadcasting fee demands. Solarfox® uses monitors that are specifically designed for continuous 24/7 operation and have no TV-tuner which exempts them from TV and Radio Broadcasting fees. Solarfox® offers high quality and performance products. Therefore we do not support any foreign hard-/software solutions.
Typical questions:
Technical Info
What is a Data-logger/Solar-log™ and do I need one?
A data-logger captures and audits the data over the Energy production, efficiency and capacity of your Solar Energy facility/plant. The data-logger provides the data to a databank in the internet that the Solarfox® system can access to provide you with the information for your facility/plant.
Can I connect directly to the data-logger (Solar-Log™ or Webbox) and there -by forgo the internet connection?
At this time is necessary that you have an internet connection (per LAN, Powerline, WLAN, WiFi, UMTS, etc.). A direct connection to the data-logger is not possible at this time. A direct data-logger connection is in development with a possible implementation after October 2011. Please contact us towards the end of 2011 for further information on this issue.
Can the system be configured for automatic turn-on/turn-off times?
Yes, the SF-200 models have a built-in timer function in the display configuration. It is also possible to use an external timer between the display power cord and the wall socket.
Can TV programs, Movies or music data be shown on the displays?
The Solarfox® does not support these options. An external TV-tuner and speakers can be connected to the display and then using the remote control unit switch between the different input options.
Must the solar facility/plant be located in the same building as the display?
No, the display can be placed anywhere as long as an Internet connection and power are available, regardless whether the facility/plant is in the same building or in a distant country.
The Capacity Speedo doesn’t show any percentage?
The speedo doesn’t show anything because the reference value has not yet been set in the Online Configuration. The Reference value will automatically be read from the Solar-Log when the Index value has been added to parameters.
In your online configuration in ( www.solarshow.net ) on the module “plant data” click on “configure module”. Fill in the required data for Location, Inverter, Modules and Power. Then click on “save”. The module will now retrieve the data from your Solar-Log and present it as a percentage in the slideshow.
Now return to the slideshow configuration and click on “system workload” to verify data presentation.

Typical questions:
Security and Guarantees
What happens in case of a server or internet outage?
All Solarfox® displays have an internal memory where data is stored. In case of a Solar-Log™ server failure the Solarfox® webserver serves as a backup solution. All data that has been transferred up to this point will continue to be shown. For the duration of the server outage no new data will be able to be processed. As soon as the Solar-Log data server is again available the Solarfox® system will synchronize with the data server and automatically deliver the newest data. The outage should not be noticeable for the viewer. In the case of a malfunction a discreet picture of a gear will be displayed. Should the picture of the gear not disappear within a few hours then contact the Solarfox® customer support.
What happens in case of an electrical outage?
Once power is restored Solarfox® will automatically reconnect to the internet and synchronize with the data server so that no data is lost.
How can the display be protected from vandalism?
We have the possibility of mounting the display in a metal housing with a plexi-glass front plate through which the display is protected from most forms of vandalism. This kind of solution is very useful in schools and public venues with a high volume of traffic.
What backup and safety features are available?
The Solarfox® webserver saves periodically all data from the data server and also performs a full data backup at regular intervals.
What is the temperature operating range?
The SF-200 display has an operating range of +5° - 35°C For other temperature ranges the SF-400 is necessary.
Can/May I make technical changes to the system?
Any and all changes or attempts to change the Hardware or Software of the Solarfox® system, monitor or computer will void the guarantee. Likewise the removal of, or tampering with, the guarantee seals will void the guarantee agreement.
What guarantees are applicable to which pieces of the Solarfox® system?
The SF-200 displays have a manufactures guarantee of 36 months. The complete Solarfox® system including the computer has a 24 month guarantee.
